Si vreau sa va mai spun ca m-am grabit sa scriu aceasta carte. M-am temut sa nu treaca mai mult de o suta de ani de cand Marele Razboi s-a incheiat, pentru ca 2018 este anul in care, pentru mine, acest razboi va disparea si el in cartile de istorie, ca atatea altele. Nu il voi mai percepe ca avand vreo legatura cu prezentul si va fi exact la fel precum razboaiele din Roma antica, vor ramane doar niste cifre si niste fresce fara suflet, chiar si sub forma de fotografii. Pur si simplu se va fi indepartat prea mult in trecut. M-am grabit sa scriu cartea pentru a imparti aceeasi lume cu unii dintre tinerii de atunci. Nu am vrut sa pierd si eu Generatia Pierduta.

 
Y, además, quisiera decirles que me he dado prisa en escribir este libro. He tenido miedo de que no pasara más de cien años desde cuando la Gran Guerra se acabó, ya que 2018 es el año en que, para mí, esta guerra también desaparecerá en los libros de historia, como tantas otras. Ya no la voy a percibir como teniendo relación alguna con el presente y será exactamente lo mismo que las guerras de la Roma antigua, permanecerán tan sólo algunas cifras y algunos frescos sin alma, incluso en forma de fotografías. Meramente se habrá alejado demasiado en el pasado. Me he dado prisa en escribir el libro para compartir el mismo mundo con algunos de los jóvenes de aquel tiempo. No quise perder yo también la Generación Perdida.

 
I also want you to know that I rushed to write this book. I was afraid to let more than one hundred years pass since the Great War was over because, for me, 2018 is the year this war will disappear in the history books, like so many others. I will not perceive it as having anything to do with the present anymore and it will be exactly the same as the wars in ancient Rome, it won't be anything left but numbers and some soulless-looking frescoes, even in the photographies. It will simply be too far in the past. I hurried to write the book in order to share the same world with some of those who were young then. I didn't want to lose, me too, the Lost Generation.
